Job Description
Seafood at St Helens is seeking an experienced and reliable Vessel Operator to join their small and hardworking oyster farming team.
This is a full-time position offering long-term employment for the right person. The role involves both land-based and deep-water oyster farming, with regular work on the water.
They are looking for someone who is committed to becoming part of the team and building a long-term future with the business. This position is not suitable for short-term employment.
Duties include:
- General farm duties working on boats and shore.
- Operating farm vessels and undertaking duties on a deep-water lease.
- Operating a deck crane as part of farm operations.
- Daily maintenance and care of stock.
- Grading and placement of stock.
- Harvesting and packing of stock for sale.
- Construction, cleaning and maintenance of farm infrastructure and stock systems.
The role is physically demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather conditions. Applicants must be comfortable undertaking manual work and spending significant time on the water.

- Punctual, reliable and committed to their work.
- Able to work effectively as part of a small team.
- A clear and effective communicator.
- Physically capable of undertaking demanding outdoor and manual work.
- Experienced in the aquaculture industry.
- Experienced in vessel operation.
- Experienced in operating a deck crane.
- The holder of a current Coxswain licence.
- The holder of a current driver’s licence.
- The holder of a current forklift licence.
- Able to provide reliable transport.
