Break O’Day Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Town Planner to join our Development Services team. This role offers the opportunity to lead statutory and strategic land use planning initiatives that support sustainable development and the vision for our community.

About the Role:
The Senior Town Planner is responsible for delivering high-quality planning services, ensuring legislative compliance, and providing strategic guidance on land use and development. You will also play a leadership role in fostering a customer-focused culture and mentoring staff within the Development Services team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver efficient statutory planning services, including assessment of development and subdivision applications.
  • Provide expert advice to Council, stakeholders, and the community on planning matters.
  • Contribute to strategic land use planning projects and policy development.
  • Facilitate improvements in planning processes and service delivery.
  • Represent Council before the Tasmanian Planning Commission, TASCAT, and other relevant forums.
  • Promote excellent customer service, communication, and collaboration within the planning team and broader organisation.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in land use planning, urban studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in statutory planning; local government experience highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of planning legislation and local government processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience producing reports, policies, and strategic documents.
  • Proven leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Current Class C driver’s licence and National Police Check.
