Job Description
The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking a Seasonal Engagement Officer to work across the Bay of Fires Conservation Area and Mount William National Park / wukalina during the 2026–27 summer season.
This role would suit someone who enjoys working with people, is confident communicating with visitors, and has an interest in Tasmania’s parks, natural environment and cultural heritage.
About the Role
You will spend much of your time out in the field, talking with visitors, campers and bushwalkers and helping them enjoy the area safely and responsibly.
Duties will include:
- Providing visitor information and friendly face-to-face engagement.
- Promoting responsible camping and recreation.
- Sharing information about Leave No Trace principles.
- Helping visitors understand campfire safety and regulations.
- Raising awareness of shorebird conservation and environmental protection.
- Supporting visitor safety and preparedness.
- Delivering informal educational and interpretive activities.
- Working independently while staying connected with Parks and Wildlife Service staff.
The position is based from the St Helens Field Centre, with work across the Bay of Fires Conservation Area and Mount William National Park / wukalina. A fleet vehicle is available, and overnight stays are not required.

- Interested in Tasmania’s parks, environment and visitor experience.
- Able to use initiative and respond to changing situations.
Experience in tourism, customer service, education, community engagement, outdoor recreation or a similar area would be well regarded.
Position Requirements
Applicants will need:
- A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
- Registration to Work with Vulnerable People, or the ability to obtain it.
- To complete a pre-employment conviction check.
- Availability for compulsory training in Hobart from 2 to 4 December 2026.
- Availability for site orientation from the week of 7 December 2026.
- Flexibility to work weekends and some public holidays.
The Opportunity
This is a fixed-term summer role, generally running for around 10 weeks from early December 2026 to early February 2027.
Hours may be up to 76 hours per fortnight, with rosters varying depending on operational needs.
