Break O’Day Council is seeking a Municipal Worker to join its Valley Crew, based in the Fingal Valley.

This is a hands-on outdoor role supporting the maintenance and improvement of parks, roads, stormwater infrastructure, recreation areas and public spaces across the municipality.

The successful applicant will work as part of a practical and community-focused team delivering a wide range of services for the Break O’Day community.

Key Duties:

  • Maintaining parks, recreation areas and public spaces
  • Repairing footpaths and assisting with road maintenance
  • Operating plant, machinery and equipment
  • Assisting with drainage and stormwater works
  • Preparing graves and maintaining cemetery areas
  • Undertaking playground inspections
  • Responding to community maintenance requests
  • Supporting Council capital works and other projects
  • Participating in Council’s after-hours on-call roster

Skills Required:

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to completing work to a high standard
  • Reliable, positive and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety
  • Able to work outdoors in a physically active role
  • Able to work with limited supervision and manage a varied workload
  • Experience in municipal maintenance, civil construction, parks and gardens, roads, drainage or a similar industry is preferred
  • Experience operating plant and equipment is an advantage
  • Willingness to learn and obtain additional skills, licences and qualifications

Hours:

  • This is a full-time position classified as 1.0 FTE.
  • Ordinary hours of work are between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. The typical work schedule is:
  • Monday to Thursday: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Friday: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
  • A 40-minute lunch break applies.
  • Additional hours or work outside ordinary hours may be required from time to time and will be managed in accordance with the applicable Enterprise Agreement.

Salary:

  • The position is classified as Outdoor Worker Level 4A under the Break O’Day Council Enterprise Agreement 2018.
  • The salary entry point is $69,089.22 per annum, plus a 12.5% superannuation contribution on all wages.
