St Helens District Hospital is seeking a Maintenance Support Officer to join our team on a casual, fixed-term basis for approximately 24 months.

Located on Tasmania’s stunning East Coast, St Helens District Hospital provides high-quality, patient-centred care in a fast-paced environment. The hospital has Tasmania’s busiest rural emergency department, with increased demand during the peak tourist season.

About the Role

The Maintenance Support Officer will undertake a variety of maintenance duties under the direction of the Director of Nursing, supporting the upkeep of hospital buildings, grounds, furniture and equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing general non-trade maintenance and minor modifications.
  • Operating machinery and equipment as required.
  • Undertaking basic repairs and maintenance to buildings, furniture and equipment.
  • Completing minor plumbing, construction and building tasks.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of hospital grounds and facilities.
  • Undertaking home modifications for East Coast clients under the direction of treating Allied Health Professionals.
  • Supporting a safe, functional and well-maintained environment for patients, staff and visitors.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience and competence in general non-trade maintenance.
  • The ability to carry out basic building, furniture and equipment repairs.
  • Practical skills across minor plumbing, construction and building tasks.
  • The ability to safely operate relevant machinery and equipment.
  • Good practical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently while following direction and established procedures.
  • A strong commitment to safety and quality.
  • A current driver’s licence is desirable.
