About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Hatchery Assistant to join our team. This role plays a vital part in supporting daily hatchery operations and ensuring the welfare and health of our fish stock is maintained to the highest standard. The successful candidate will work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the hatchery.

This position operates on a 7 days on / 7 days off roster, offering a balanced schedule with extended time off between working weeks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily routine hatchery tasks efficiently and to a high standard
  • Feed fish in accordance with established feeding schedules and procedures
  • Clean tanks and maintain hatchery equipment
  • Conduct mort collection and disposal in line with biosecurity protocols
  • Flush systems and assist with water management processes
  • Monitor water quality and complete associated documentation
  • Maintain accurate records, daily checklists, and required paperwork
  • Communicate effectively with management and team members
  • Uphold workplace health and safety standards at all times

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in, or a genuine interest in, fin fish husbandry or aquaculture
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
  • Proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Commitment to safety, wellbeing, and ongoing learning
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
