Job Description
The Environmental Health Officer is a key member of the Council’s Development Services team, responsible for maintaining public health and environmental standards across the Break O’Day municipality. This includes conducting inspections, enforcing compliance with relevant legislation, providing expert advice to the community and businesses, and contributing to programs that promote community well-being.

The Person We Are Looking For
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented professional with a strong commitment to public and environmental health. The ideal candidate will have:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in Public or Environmental Health.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, compliance requirements, and best practice standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with Council staff, community members, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- A customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality service.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating integrity, respect, and open communication.
Hours
While the minimum requirement for this role is two days per week, Council is open to flexible arrangements, including full-time hours. The role could extend up to five days per week, potentially in collaboration with another Northern Tasmanian Council.
Ordinary hours of work are flexible, with occasional additional hours required, managed under the Council’s Enterprise Agreement.
Pay
The applicable salary will depend on the qualifications, skills, and experience of the successful applicant.
The Council pays a superannuation contribution of 12.5% on all wages.
